Valleybrook Pilates and Fitness offers nutrition and wellness services that are specific to your own genetic code through DNA testing.
A program that is a personal fit for YOU!
It is estimated that as many as 90% of all diets fail. The reasons are many, but recent breakthroughs in nutrigenetics have discovered one very distinguishable explanation – each person’s body, and how it reacts to various foods, is unique.
By analyzing your DNA and applying the science of nutrigenetics (nutrition + genetics), Melissa Pintar, RD, LDN, our Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, will give you personalized guidance and recommendations designed to help you reach your health goals, including those related to body weight and food intolerances.
Nutrigenomics describes the relationship of how food, beverages, and supplements affect our genes and how our genes can influence our body’s response to what we consume. The science of how specific gene variations alter the way we respond to dietary components enables us to use nutrition to its fullest potential to support the prevention and management of various health issues. The Nutrigenomix test reveals your genetic profile at 45 genes related to nutrition and fitness. Working with our dietitian to understand your nutrigenetic profile and its implications on your unique response to dietary intake and fitness performance will help you gain insight into your own body and provide you with the tools needed to make the best dietary choices.
We will also work with you individually to address barriers in your diet and lifestyle that may be restricting you from feeling your best. This is your chance to stop the dieting cycle and learn how to confidently nourish your body and adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors. Upon completion of our program, you will be ready to lead the life you were born to live!

Melissa Pintar, RD, LDN- Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
Melissa’s initial passion for nutrition was primarily spurred by a keen interest in understanding the way food and nutrients can be used to benefit athletic performance. Melissa was also enthusiastic about the science of nutrition and its role in disease pathophysiology, but her journey was imperfect, scathed by her own personal struggles with food. However, her history with battling an unhealthy relationship with food was derived by an imbalance in the whole spectrum of wellness which now brings her greater insight and understanding into other’s personal dieting difficulties. Her desire to help others regulate dietary intake and adopt a wellness-oriented lifestyle led to her obtaining a BS in Applied Science in Dietetics from Youngstown State University, completing over 1200 hours of dietetic internship, and accomplishing registration as a Dietitian.
Melissa gained professional experience as a dietitian working within skilled nursing homes where she quickly observed the deleterious consequences of uncontrolled chronic diseases first-hand; this is where Melissa discovered her vocation in the dietetics field which includes focusing on disease prevention and incorporating an integrative and functional approach to medical nutrition therapy. She is in the midst of completing a Master of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition from the University of Kansas Medical Center with an emphasis in the area of integrative and functional medical nutrition therapy. Melissa hopes to combine her knowledge of complex nutritional sciences and chronic disease progression, corresponding interest in wellness and fitness, and compassion for those battling with food and weight issues in order to assist others in achieving health and vitality.
Melissa is hardly ever found not practicing dietetics as she lives out her professional health-based philosophies in her personal life. Melissa enjoys a highly active lifestyle including instructing fitness classes, recreational running, and most any outdoor activity. She is also working on developing her green thumb and creativity in card-making. One of Melissa’s favorite recipes to cook is a high anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory dish called, “Colorful Quinoa” accompanied with Mediterranean marinated chicken. Although, don’t be surprised if you catch her at an ice cream parlor as Melissa feels strongly that moderation in indulgence is essential to provide satisfaction and variety in the diet. She looks forward to creating patient-centered relationships and being her client’s number one supporter in helping them meet their nutrition and wellness goals.
